Not all plants and flowers in our garden are native to England.  Some have travelled from different countries around the world.  But how did they get here? Botanists (plant experts) travel around the world and bring back the plants which are grown and sold.

Have a look at the powerpoint and see if you can find any plants from other countries in your garden?

We have a special place in our hearts where God lives.

God dwells in a special place in our hearts, and it is a special kind of prayer when we take time to think about God in our hearts. Wherever we pray, God has a special place in our hearts.

Using the heart template or make your own heart shape and write a prayer thanking God for being with us during the good times and bad times.

Think: What can we do where we live to make a difference in keeping our world special? It could be something little that makes a difference at home, for example recycling or something further afield like adopting an elephant!

Discuss with your family something you could do to help keep our world a special place.

Gifts of the Holy Spirit

The gifts of the Holy Spirit enable people to live as Christians.  There are seven particular gifts, which are linked together and help people to lead good lives and make use of the gifts they have.  These gifts should be used to help others.

Wisdomthat is the gift to be sensible and not to jump to conclusions but be thoughtful.

Understandingenables people to be compassionate and to take time to find out and be able to appreciate what is happening.

Counselmeans using wisdom and understanding to come to a good decision about something.

Fortitude  – there are times when everyone needs to be brave in standing up for what they believe to be right and holy.

Knowledgewithout knowledge you cannot make right judgements or have an understanding. It takes practice to have true knowledge.

Piety  – this is about reverence and respect for God, for one another and for oneself.

Fear of the Lord - this gift enables people to recognise the awe and wonder of God and be amazed by the love and goodness of God.

Is there a gift that you think is the most important? Why? Can you see the gifts in you or the people around you?  What can we do to grow these gifts in us?

Watch the clip about shadow puppets.  This afternoon’s job is to make some puppets or use your hands to create shapes that could tell a story using shadows.  Think about the silhouette you are wanting to create.  You won’t need to worry too much about the detail on the puppets or your hands as you won’t see them.  Could you retell a fairy tale or write your own story and retell it in shadow puppet play form?  I’d love to see what you get up to.

Oscar Romero

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZ2j9W780Mo

Pentecost is known as the birth of the church and Priests wear red vestments o celebrate the Holy Spirit and fire at Pentecost.  When the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples it was their job to go and tell others about God and speak out on behalf of others.  Oscar Romero was an Archbishop from El Salvador who spoke out for the people in El Salvador who couldn’t.  Watch the story of Oscar Romero.  The graphics and colours in the picture should remind you of the cross we have in class.  I’d like you to design your own Romero cross in the style of the drawing and colours seen in the clip.  I’ve attached a template if you’d like to use it but you don’t need to.  Make it really bright and colourful but also with a message of God’s love for others.

Why does your shadow change size and shape throughout the day?

As the weather was so awful last Wednesday I’m guessing you still have the shadow measuring to do.

Watch the first clip to remind yourself how we get day and night.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z9fpyrd

Then watch the 2nd video about shadows.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z6fnvcw

I’d like you to measure your shadows today.  Hopefully it’s sunny this time! Over the course of the day go outside and measure your shadow to see what happens to it.  Choose the same spot each time to measure it and measure at regular intervals.  (If you don’t have a tape measure at home, don’t worry.  You could measure your shadow using something else as long as it’s the same object every time.  So you could measure it in cereal boxes or shoes for example) Something like 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm would be great.

What time of day was it longest or shortest?  Can you create a table to show your results? (don’t forget to put your units of measurement-so was it cm, m, shoes….?) And a bar chart? (you’ll need the length up the side and the time you measure along the bottom)

The Romans were responsible for lots of things we still use today.  For example the months of the year, words in our language, measurements, central heating, roads and sewers.  Watch the clip and then find out a bit more about one of them.  You might like to learn some Latin, find out how to build a Roman road, do some calculations using Roman numerals or find out which animals the Romans brought to England.

Think: What could I do at home to spread a little love? Make a cup of tea, give an extra hard hug, tidy up…the list is endless! Have some fun with it.  Looking forward to seeing what you did.

It’s got a couple of great videos to watch and then you can find out about Boudicca after.  As an activity could you make a Boudicca sword or shield from cardboard boxes and tin foil? If you have any face paints at home (and it’s ok with Mum and Dad!) could you create some Celtic markings on your face to frighten the Romans away?

A selection of work from last week

Thursday 26th March

Morning,  I've added below a 30 Lego challenge grid if you fancied a creative outlet over the next few weeks and I've also added some mindfulness colouring pages for both children and adults.  I realise you need a printer to access these but they were too lovely not to share.  If you don't have access to a printer you could always try to draw your own.  I'd start with a small corner and work out with lots of little patterns.  Enjoy
